Yayoi Kusama - Musings

in #art6 years ago

The past 2 years of my college introduced me to the world of communicating through installation art. What are Installations you ask? They are works of art created for a specific location which transform the entire meaning of a space with their context. They can be interactive or non-interactive as well.

Anyway, I like to read more about artists and designers as most of you might know. I came across the following picture and couldn't believe my eyes for what the artist had done with the space. The artist behind this masterpiece is Yayoi Kusama. This one is from the series of The Infinity Mirror Rooms".

Yayoi was born in the city of Matsumoto in Japan who also started painting at a very young age. She started experiencing hallucinations at an early age which included a lot of polka dots. Later on she moved to New York to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. These are some of the installations from the same series which have the use of mirrors to give the essence of infinity.

I instantly fell in love with the idea behind them and the level of creativity used to bring the concept together. A lot of times
it happens that we try to make literal translations of what we want to portray but seeing this made me realise that there are many incredible ways of communicating and engaging with the viewer. What do you think about these?

That's one more item for my bucket list. The Infinity Mirrored Room literally looks like outer space!

Haha true! I would love to see them in person someday. One of the exhibition just ended on 27th of May.

Really very creative and great art. It is an unique concept.

Exactly. Very intelligently executed!
