Once upon a time | C'era una volta

The history of letters and parcels's transportation by air is more long-lived than initially imagined. Of course sending letters via the sky has considerable advantages in terms of time. This is why the ancient Romans used to train pigeons that brought important messages to the recipient relatively quickly. The first "human" airmail transport thought seems to date back to 1785, when Benjamin Franklin's nephews organized a carriage along Dover's Strait using a balloon.

La storia del trasporto di lettere e pacchi via aerea è più longeva di quanto si possa inizialmente immaginare. Far viaggiare lettere via cielo ha infatti notevoli vantaggi in termini di tempo. Per questo già gli antichi romani usavano addestrare dei piccioni che portassero messaggi importanti al destinatario in tempi relativamente brevi. Il primo trasporto "umano" di posta aerea invece pare risalire al 1785, quando i nipoti di Benjamin Franklin organizzarono un trasporto lungo la manica usando una mongolfiera.

1903

In 1903 the Wright brothers revolutionized the world of aviation as known until then. They built the "Flyer", the first motorized aircraft able to raise from the ground (flight that lasted 59 seconds, at the time a great achievement). After this first step there was a rapid evolution of the aircraft also due to the collapse of the great war. In fact, only 8 years later, air mail transport began officially and in 1918 international transport began.

Nel 1903 i fratelli Wright rivoluzionarono il mondo dell'aviazione come conosciuto fino ad allora. Costruirono il "Flyer", primo velivolo motorizzato in grado di issarsi da terra (volo che durò 59 secondi, all'epoca un grande traguardo). Dopo questo primo passo ci fu una rapida evoluzione dei velivoli dovuta anche all'incombere della grande guerra. Infatti solo 8 anni più tardi il trasporto postale aereo ebbe inizio ufficialmente e nel 1918 iniziarono i trasporti internazionali.

Small, big, bigger | Piccolo, grande, enorme

Since that time, time has flown! Airmail transportation has become increasingly organized and developed. For the first decades it was an exclusive service for priority letters. Nowadays, however, a large part of international mailings is transferred by air on some routes. The progress made in this field in about 100 years of history has been enormous. However in certain remote or difficult-to-access areas, small private or parastatal companies continue to offer this service that certainly preserves something fascinating and adventurous! That's what inspired my blue-pencil-doodle :D

Da allora, il tempo è volato! Il trasporto di posta aerea è diventato sempre più organizzato e sviluppato. Per i primi decenni si trattava di un servizio esclusivo per le lettere prioritarie. Al giorno d'oggi invece buona parte degli invii internazionali viene trasferita via aereo su alcune tratte. Il progresso fatto in questo campo nei circa 100 anni di storia è stato enorme. Eppure in certe zone remote o di difficile accesso, piccole società private o parastatali continuano a offrire questo servizio che conserva sicuramente qualcosa di affascinante e avventuroso! Questo é ciò che ha ispirato il mio scarabocchio-con-la-matita-blu. :D
