Even ARM would have suspended relations with Huawei

After what happened in the United States, the number of companies that suspend relations with Huawei continues to grow. ARM also decided to stop working with Huawei after Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm and other manufacturers.

The peculiarity is that ARM is not a U.S.-based company, but in the UK. The BBC with a report published in these hours was to reveal the strategic move of the company. There is currently only one memo that has been communicated to employees of the company while official communications are not available.

ARM will therefore interrupt relations with Huawei until the Trump administration clarifies or releases the situation in the US. The motivation would be due to the partnership between the two companies that is integrated into Huawei and Honor smartphones for the development of HiSilicon Kirin SoCs.

These solutions would also have part of the technology that comes from U.S. businesses within them, thus risking problems with the U.S. government. This is another move that undermines the Chinese manufacturer, whereas the ARM based on SoC architecture is the most used in mobile applications (and for which Huawei pays regular license).

For the realization of smartphones, Huawei has not commented on this additional problem at the moment, but it seems the circle is closing around the manufacturer. There would be some countermeasures under scrutiny, such as replacing Android with an internally built operating system and no longer relying on Google Play, but on various "stores" such as Aptoide. Nevertheless, having to design ex-novo SoC is an issue that can be considered even more serious than previous ones.
