Arizona's supreme court upheld a law from 1864 that bans abortions in the state and imprisons doctors that violate the law.

It has no exceptions for rape or incest. It will come into force in two weeks. Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes says she won't enforce the law. Local prosecutors though could still enforce it.

Reminder of how important elections are- Kris Mayes won her election by a mere 280 votes. Her Republican opponent Abraham Hamadeh said he would have enforced the 1864 law.

This is what Trump means when he says "let the states decide" abortion. Enforcing a law from before Arizona was even a state.

An abortion rights amendment could be on the ballot this November in Arizona. This will be a critical battleground state this cycle.
