How to make Arepas! btw they are Gluten Free!

I wanted to share with all of you a simple way to make this delicious food which can be eaten any time of the day!

Arepa is a dough patty made out of corn meal. It can be made on the pan, grill or oven and you when cut in the middle it can be stuffed with almost anything you want :)

The best flour for arepas can be found in many local markets in the international or goya section. The flour is called P.A.N and this is the picture of the product you need to get your arepa started.

This is the recipe to make the arepa followed by instructions

  • 4.4 oz of P.A.N Flour
  • 1 cup of water
  • Salt to taste
  • Drop of Oil

To make the dough:

  • Pour the water into a bowl. Then put in the flour and spread it until all of it gets covered by the water. Let it soak for a few minutes

    Now your ready to start mixing it!

    Using your hand start mixing the bowl until the dough feels like it is a single piece, you should not see it grainy. The look of it should be smooth.

    If you are leaving the dough to rest be sure to cover it with a cloth so it does not dry. You want to start making the arepas right away :) as the dough is nice and soft.

  • To start making the arepa grab a piece of dough to make a nice ball in your hand about this size

  • Start pressing the arepa from one hand to the other and shape it round like this!

  • You are now ready to put this into the pan! Wet the pan with a little oil and cook them at medium heat

After you have mastered them you can improvise with the dough and mix it with cheese or anything that you love!

For the filling it can be as simple as just cheese and they are delicious but you can mix them with meats, or anything that your creativity can think of.
