jp-Friendship#6 「好きな建物・書写山圓教寺」/favorite architecture・Enkyoji-temple,Himeji

@chronognさんからバトンを戴きましたので、jp-Friendship#6「好きな建物」に参加させて戴きます。

Since I got a baton from @chronogn, I'd like to write about my favorite architecture for @steemit-jp's #jp-Friendship #6.

古建築好きなこともあって、好きな建物は沢山あるのですが、少し落ち着いて考えてみるとやっぱりこの寺院の空気感が好きかなぁと思います。兵庫県姫路市にある書写山圓教寺（しょしゃさんえんぎょうじ）です。あまりいい写真ではないので伝わりにくいかも知れませんが、アクセスはよくなくても、わざわざでも行きたくなる静かで厳か、風格ある伽藍、そして建物が魅力的な場所です。伽藍がある標高371mの書写山は、兵庫県指定の書写山鳥獣保護区（特別保護地区）に指定されているそうです。基本的に無宗教なのですが天台宗の寺院の建造物や美術品が好きなのでその辺りもあるのかも知れません。

As I once worked at a traditional building demolition and repair site, I'm interested in traditional architecture very much. I like them both Japanese and from overseas, but when I think about "my favorite", I feel like this place is one of the best place enjoying the architecture and the atmosphere. It is a Shoshazan Engyoji Temple, Himeji city, Hyogo pref. Even the access is not convenient, I'd like to visit different seasons to just enjoy walking around... this is such a special place for me. (Sorry about not so good photos)

1枚目の写真は到着してしばらく歩くと現れる圧巻の建物、摩尼殿（まにでん）です。岩山の中腹にあるため「舞台造り」と言われるせり出すような工法で建てられています。舞台造り（懸造り）の建造物としては京都の清水寺本堂（江戸初期・国宝）や奈良の長谷寺本堂（江戸初期・国宝）などが有名ですね。残念ながら旧摩尼殿は大正10年に焼失してしまったそうですが、昭和8年に伝統的な工法で再建され、現在は姫路市指定有形文化財となっているそうです。

The first photo is "Maniden". It was originally from ancient time, but unfortunately it was burned in 1921, so the building we can see now is renovated in 1933. This is built the middle of a rock mountain. Such a structure is called 'Kake-zukuri' (overhang method of construction) or 'Butai-zukuri' (the construction style like a stage), and Kiyomizudera Temple in Kyoto is well known as a temple with this style of building.

 

そして圧巻なのが国の重要文化財に指定されている大講堂（室町中期）です。この建造物、何となく見覚えがある方はいらっしゃらないでしょうか。
そうなんです。2003年に公開された「ラストサムライ」のロケ地として使われた場所として知られています。ロケ地について詳しく書かれているこちらのサイトを読んでいると、2014年のNHK大河ドラマ「軍師官兵衛」の撮影地としても使われたようでした。

This building should be mentioned, the name is "Daikodo (grand hall)" built in the 15th AD, this is designated as an important cultural asset of the country. If you've watched a movie "the last samurai" before, you'd seen this building behind while Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe having a conversation. It is said that when some stuff of that movie visited Himeji castle to find a place for the filming, they have a little time to explore around the area, so just visited this temple. Then the director really liked this atmosphere so it was chosen as a filming location.

 

 

建物の特徴としては繊細な造りとなっていく江戸時代の様式とは異なり、少し男性的というか、力強い印象があります。でも中に入ると中性的というか、静かで凛とした「無」が演出されたような空間が広がります。姫路界隈には中国の建築様式の影響を持つ中世の建物がいくつか残っていて、京都や奈良などの古刹と比べるとあまり知られていないかもしれませんが、かっこいい建物が沢山あります。兵庫県小野市の浄土寺浄土堂の大仏様（天竺様）の内陣や阿弥陀三尊立像はいずれも国宝に指定されていて、正に「クール！」の一言です（マニアックですみません）。

Some buildings from Middle century in Japan, the way of construction is a little affected by Chinese temples, and the stile is called "Daibutsuyo (Chinese style)", the feature is inside of the hall. We can see this kind of buildings around this temple, especially Hyogo pref. Kyoto or Nara is well known as a traditional temple since ancient time or Edo period, but there's more interesting buildings from Middle century (Kamakura or Muromachi period) so I'd like to introduce these cool temples some day. I like a Jododo (Jodo hall), Jodoji Temple in Ono city, the inside is quite cool and it is said the hall is built perfect size for Budda statue, and both the hall and Budda statue are national treasures.

とにかくそのようなこともあり、圓教寺さんやこの界隈の中世の建造物をもつ寺院には、建築を勉強する多くの学生が訪れ熱心に写真を撮影しているのを目にします。あまり知られていない場所なのですが、西の比叡山とも言われるこの書写山圓教寺。姫路城にも匹敵する素晴らしい伽藍と建物ですので、姫路を訪れる機会があれば是非、足を運んで戴ければと思います。

So anyway we can find many students studying architecture around this area. Himeji city is also well known as a place Himeji castle is. This castle is also a national treasure so very famous sightseeing place for people from overseas especially in these years after a long renovation. I'd like to write about Himeji castle also some day :)
