A leisurely scroll through the architecture of Barcelona -- BONUS

in #architecture6 years ago

I just wanted to show off one more pretty cool building in Barcelona not related to the three architects I mentioned in PART 1, PART 2 or PART 3. (Feel free to check 'em out from the last couple of days.)

This building is in the heart of El Barrio Gótico, the biggest landmark in the area, The Cathedral of Bracelona.

The present foundations of the church were built on the remains of older visigothic ones of which are documented as far back as the sixth century. The present church's construction began in 1298 and finished 1448, making it a contender with the oh-my-god-its-taking-forever-to-build Sagrada Familia. I will note that originally this church did not look as bad ass.

BOOORING

So they pimped it out for the 1888 World Exhibition in Barcelona and gave it a fresh look. Wow Nice job team!

Make sure you check it out, they have a gift shop, some friggin old looking architecture, gargoyles and even... thirteen magical geese(gooses?) that live inside. :O
