Old Stone House
Old Stone House is a vacation home designed for a young couple, located on a beautiful mountain site in the Hudson Valley in the United States.
Takina's architects have stripped the original structure of its three walls and roof, retaining only the stone wall, typical of the region's designs. Then they completely reworked the house to make a modern, bright home that takes the spirit of the barns. The existing rough stone texture is coupled to a black metal roof roof and a tinted cedar veneer to form a monolithic appearance. The pronounced anodized aluminum plate composes the window and door opening frames and puts more emphasis on the new and the old. The main area has an open plan loft type containing living room, dining room and kitchen. It has a cathedral ceiling with a north-facing skylight that diffuses soft light throughout the day while large south-facing sliding doors offer mountain views. The rooms and bathrooms of modest size are grouped in the new structure, east side. The ceiling framing is exposed and painted white in the rooms. This modern rustic design with carefully located windows captures the soft morning light.
