Lac Beaver Kiosks

It is in the environment of Parc Mont-Royal, a true Montreal landmark, that the kiosks are located. In a series of artistically orchestrated landscapes to counteract the debilitating effects of urban stress, they allow us, through their use and architecture, to enjoy this peaceful and family-friendly place. They seem in turn to tell us a story. The story of several generations before us.

The specificity of kiosks is created by their integration of the most discreet and harmonious in the landscape of Mount Royal. They are not only respectful of the mountain, they participate, by their architecture in the poetry of the place. An architectural achievement that does not alter the intrinsic qualities of the mountain and quality construction that has undeniable potential for durability.

The installation of the new kiosks takes the figure of an existing hamlet with the three original buildings. The idea of ​​the hamlet also presents the idea of ​​the village, a place that favors gathering, conviviality and meetings. The location of the kiosks presents a discrete random approach favoring a one-to-one dialogue between the kiosks and the main pavilion, the waterfall and Lac aux Castors. Their random position makes it possible to walk around without a specific path.

The spirit of the clearing and its poetic values ​​are experienced through visual perspectives, sunbathing and the rocking of the wind. In this state of mind, the intention to create a deliberately dynamic movement is clear. Atelier Urban Face was inspired by this wind that blows and generates the desired articulation, both structured and random. The frame revealing the three kiosks, reads like a painting featuring the wind pushing three volumes, expressing their sensitivity to the place, the elements and the pressures that surround them.

Using a steel structure, each booth expresses, to varying degrees, this thrust caused by the wind. They each welcome a portion of the program. The first kiosk bows to ten degrees, welcomes the green class and snow class. It can accommodate up to 30 people and offers several opportunities for activities. The second, inclined at 20 degrees, integrates the sector's service equipment and the first-aid station. The third, with 30 degrees of inclination, houses the ticket office and allows storage of recreational equipment.

The shape and the transparency of their construction present a lightness of assembly: three "huts" deposited in the park, both visible and invisible through the woods. Their transparency favors a dialogue of shadows and light. Up close, a simple interior volume, hollowed out and punctuated by an open structure at the ends. The wood dresses the interior volume, composed of wooden board tongue. Dyed neutral at each kiosk, light emerges and creates a dialogue between the cabins and the main lodge.
