Houseboat Haarlem Shuffle

in #architecture8 years ago

This modern and floating house is a design by Van Ommeren Architecten, it is docked on the Spaarne River that runs through Haarlem, a city on the outskirts of Amsterdam.
The house is covered with wood creating a textured façade, lined with glazed openings and an aluminum roof. In the entrance, there is an integrated space for the storage of coats and shoes. The entrance opens onto the social areas of the house. The kitchen is minimalist in its design with white cabinets. A glazed wall offers views and allows natural light to filter inside. In the dining room, a wooden table is under two sculptural suspensions. In the living room, there is a wood stove for the colder months, and for the warmer months, a sliding door can be opened to give access to a small terrace. The bedroom and bathroom share the same space with a partially frosted glass wall separating the shower and toilet from the rest of the room. In the main area, a staircase descends to the lower level which houses an open space, as well as two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, storage rooms and a laundry room.
