Mixing Moscow
Intensifying the mono-city of Moscow

Can we have what we want when we are closer together? Is a crowded place better than a calm one? Is a tight configuration more efficient than a lose network? Can we think of a city where you can have what you want, right next to you?

Mixing City Floor plan on a given moment in time

Let's first look at the opposite: The Mono City of Moscow. It is a machine based on clusters of mono functionality with intensified infrastructure in between. Its maximum, one metro each forty seconds has been reached. More and more people get packed together like cattle, while mass producing Dumbness: Pointing your nose in each other's armpit or iPad. Dumbness is experienced as mono-intensity, the stretched time between the things you want. The speed of Dumbness is human moving speed + mechanical acceleration. Dumbness is replacing inspiration with immersion into a mental Candy Crush-Zone, depleting the sense of wonder. This Dumbness is eating years of our lives. A new approach to distribution, movement and accessibility seems to be needed.

Central adaptable tower in Moscow

Dumbness becomes Mixity. Architecture becomes infrastructure. Step out of your living room into a theater. Take a museum to the park. Pick your vegetables right out of your kitchen window. Can the density of Moscow be quadrupled while providing the qualities of Mixity? A non-stop transforming central tower volume absorbing all the non-stop changing program of Moscow. The proximity of difference is minimized, while maximizing Mixity. When a program cell is not in use it shrinks, dragging other programs closer together, bringing what you want right next to you.
