A Day Trip to New Jerusalem near Moscow

in #architecture6 years ago (edited)

My friends and I decided to go to a day trip. The New Jerusalem Monastery was closed on the renovation for many years. Now it is open for the public.
It was built in 1656 by Patriarch Nikon. The idea was to recreate the Holy Places in Russia near Moscow. They built the same church as in Jerusalem "Church of the Holy Sepulchre".
Of course during the Soviet Union the Monastery was closed. And it was opened again only in the 1990s. Lots of years and money was spent to renovate this place.
I can say that it is very special place! And I am very happy that we have such a place near Moscow.
Here are some photos from that day:

Dobray dyen. Wow! I had no idea this place even existed. I guess that's what happens when you grow up during the cold war, and when neither side would want to talk about such a beautiful place. Thanks! paka!
