Minimalism in architecture - one of the most popular architectural trends

in #architecture9 years ago (edited)

The term minimalism is also used to describe a trend in design and architecture, wherein the subject is reduced to its necessary elements. Minimalist architectural designers focus on the connection between two perfect planes, elegant lighting, and the void spaces left by the removal of three-dimensional shapes in an architectural design.

Minimalist architecture became popular in the late 1980s in London and New York, where architects and fashion designers worked together in the boutiques to achieve simplicity, using white elements, cold lighting, large space with minimum objects and furniture. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism#Minimalist_design_and_architecture

And recently in the Swiss city of Chur has opened a new building of the Art Museum Bündner Kunstmuseum. It was a complement and extension of the old museum building - a historic building Villa Planta, and contrasts them with their pointed geometric shapes.

Architects - Spanish architectural firm Barozzi / Veiga (http://barozziveiga.com) - Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga - arranged exhibition halls below the ground level by pushing the top place for the organization of public spaces.
