📷 Palace Stamboli in Feodosia: architectural sights

in #architecturalphotography6 years ago (edited)

It is quite fascinating to look at the architectural monuments of the past, and I being in the Crimea, could not miss one of the bright sights — the Stamboli dacha-Palace, which became the hallmark of Theodosia.

The architecture of the Palace is very peculiar. It seems that you were transported back several centuries and found yourself in some Eastern fairy tale, in the Palace of the Sheikh or the ruler of Andalusia.

This mansion was built in the art Nouveau style, for those times it was a novelty. Joseph stamboli owned a tobacco factory in Feodosia, and the fame of this family spread far beyond the Peninsula.

According to rumors, the cottage was intended as a wedding gift to the future wife, Rachel Bobovich. Others suggest that the project of the Palace was conceived by Joseph's father-Benjamin Osipovich.

High minaret, spacious covered galleries, terraces and many original towers, such a bright and colorful ornamental decoration give the building an unusual Oriental flavor and grandeur.

The gallery of the main front door offers a wonderful view of the sea. All the projects of the Palace were made by the famous St. Petersburg architect Oscar Wegener. The construction of the building lasted for 4 years from 1910 to 1914, and it cost a pretty decent amount at the time (1 million 100 thousand rubles).

On the second floor of the Palace today is a Museum, which is a unique center of underwater archeology of the Crimea.

For such a long period of existence of the Palace that only it was not: a sanatorium, a military hospital, a hotel, a pioneer camp, a Bank, and even a drug treatment center.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the cottage was bought by private individuals and turned into a restaurant. The exterior of the Palace is really chic, made in Moorish style and look at it very interesting.

Rich decoration of the mansion consists of a variety of shades of marble, precious wood and all kinds of stucco decorations.

Such walls can be considered as real works of art. Unusual ornate Oriental ornaments and stucco, well-chosen colors.
