The Soft Glow of Ancient Civilization – Architectural Photography

This seemingly remote fort is actually situated right in the middle of an Indian town.

Far away, right here

Even though Orchha Fort is located in the town of Orchha, it seems very far away in terms of sense and atmosphere. As the photo shows, there is no evidence of modern civilization anywhere in sight. In fact, this photo looks as if it might have been taken 4–5 centuries ago … long before the invention of digital cameras!

Ancient treasure, impressive now

The stately fort is situated in a large complex that features various palaces, temples, gardens, and pavilions. Taken together or in separate parts, it is all definitely reminiscent of another time – an era very different from ours. Even though it’s nearby, it is remote, virtually untouched by our modern world or our current civilization.

By any measure, the fort is a grand structure. But as the golden ochre walls glowed like an ancient treasure in the late afternoon sun and against the cool blue sky, it was exceptionally impressive. Location – Orchha Fort, on Google Maps This is my entry in @juliank’s Architectural Photography contest.

Beautiful! I visited Orchha years ago on my way to Khajurajo and remember this place. There were bright green parrots everywhere. Oh India!

Yeh, we visited it on the way back from Khajuraho. Normally, I preferred the southern beaches or the Himalayas, and never really cared for traveling in the middle of India.

But our trip to Khajuraho and thru Orchha was interesting, relaxing, and unforgettable. Decent travel companions may have had something to do with it, but I still remember Khajuraho as a pleasant town. We rented cycles, and spent the good part of the afternoon cycling around the town, the parks and even outside of town, exploring it all.

And ended the day with great wood-fired pizza and beer.

Somehow like Angkor Wat, untouched. So many places to visit.

Orchha is nice, but Khajuraho is even better. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khajuraho_Group_of_Monuments

In fact, we stopped off in Orchha on our return trip from Khajuraho.

How did you get there?
It doesn’t look like there is a road.
It’s like you just come out from the jungle and then it appeared out of nowhere. 😂

Good question. I cannot recall how, but in Wikipedia, it says that there are some pedestrian bridges from the town.

A great choice for architectural photography. This is a magnificent structure. Good luck to you and Love.
