Architectural Photography

This is my submission to the #architecturalphotography photo contest sponsored by @julianK

This is the Empire Landmark Hotel on Robson Street in Vancouver. At 42 stories it was once the city's tallest freestanding hotel. Crowning the summit of the tower is the Cloud 9 revolving restaurant offering stunning views of the city, Georgia Strait and the North Shore mountians.
Unfortunately the building is scheduled for demolition to make way for 2 shorter residential towers hosting market and social housing units . The tower will not come down by implosion but rather one floor at a time incorporating the Brokk system of gradual deconstruction, expected to take one year.
The city is changing and it's arguable whether it's for the better. It's nice to see that they are including social housing in the development as it is needed in a big way. I realize it's just economics but sometimes it's hard to let go of familiar landmarks, it's somewhat like discarding a comfortable old pair of shoes.

Interesting way of tearing down the building. Neat architecture however.

Yes it is. I guess the location isn't condusive to an implosion. Thanks for your comment and good to see you back. Any idea what this abuse report thing is in the comments?

Unique looking building.

It is and it was one of the dominant components of the Vancouver skyline at one time. As of late it's been dwarfed. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the comment, it's inspirational.
