New 7 Wonders of the World: Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities and and had the most diverse population in the Maya world.
It is also the most well-known and frequently visited Mayan ruins site located in the centre of the Yucatan Peninsula as well as in all Mexico.
In 2007 when it was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, along with places like Machu Picchu, the Roman Colosseum, and the Great Wall of China.
This majestic The Kukulcan Temple (El Castillo) is the most famous landmark of Chichen Itza.
Unfortunately, climbing the pyramid, after a tourist fell from the top and died, is prohibited.
During the spring and autumn equinox at sunset, the light creates a special effect, which makes the statues of snakes on the sides of the staircase look like crawling alongside the pyramid (the snake was the sign of the Kukulcan god, god of the sun and the heavens).
The pyramid has a total of 365 steps which is same with the number of days in one year, the Mayans were progressived in mathematics, astrology and their famous calendars.
The ruins are fascinating, no wonder that 1.2 million tourists visit them every year!
My tips:
- Don’t go on Sunday! Mexican nationals get in free on this day.
- Get there very early in the morning and avoid the crowds at busy time.
- Take sunscreen with you - the sun usually shines all day and there is not much shadow there.

:-) To byla PC hra. Děj se odehrával na různých mistech na světě. V jedné misi měly tyhle pyramidy zásadní úlohu.

Chichen Itza is great! I was there in January and it's cool. The only problem were loads of people. Maybe I wasn't early enough. Still, cool photos :)
