Altar in the blue church. #architecturalphotography

If you look at this photo, it becomes clear why the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin was called the Blue Church - Gedächtniskirche. The high-rise building was built in the late 19th century. And in the middle of the 20th, it was destroyed during a bomb strike. The ruins of the church were left as a reminder of a terrible war. Nearby built a modern laconic building, where church services are held. The walls of the new part are made of blue glass, which is highlighted. In the photo there is an altar in this part of the church.

From Wikipedia: "The secret of illumination lies in the architecture: light sources between two walls, located at a distance of 2.70 m from each other, illuminate the glass inserted into the countless concrete honeycombs, painting the glasses in a mysterious blue color.
The church has a diameter of 35 meters and a height of 20.5 meters with a capacity of more than 1,000 people "
Glass go around the perimeter of the church. Here is a view of the organ.

And this is how this complex looks outside.

Interesting place. Does the glass get any direct sunlight during the day? It would be interesting to see the result of that! It looks as if the ceiling is quite high, too. What is the rest of the space like?

Thank you for the question. I updated the post and add more photos. I hope now you will get a more complete impression of this interesting place.

The original memorial church was destroyed in World War II. There is only a ruin of the building left (as you can see on the picture). On the left and right side of the ruin a new church has been built in 1960. The picture of the post above shows the alter of the church that is on the left side of the original memorial church. On the right side there is a new churchtower aswell. Those buildings consist of a concrete frame with glass windows. The building with the altar in it has double walls, so there are glass windows on the wall facing outside the church and glass windows facing the inside. In between those windows there light sources installed, so the bluish glow doesn't come from the sunlight but from the light between the windows.
