I took this picture on a hot afternoon.

It is Friday afternoon. The mosque has been deserted. Only a few people were seen in and out of the mosque whih was designed by Frederich Silaban, a Christian architect from North Sumatra.

I thought, after Monas, Istiqlal Mosque was the most popular domestic tourist destination in Jakarta after National Monument or Monas. In fact, if the tour time was short, many tourist prefered this mosque than Monas. For muslims, it seems less afdal if you have not prayed here at the first time visiting Indonesia Capital.

Masjid Istiqlal

Aku mengambil foto ini di suatu siang yang terik. Ini Jumat sore. Majid itu sudah sepi. Hanya beberapa orang yang terlihat keluar-masuk masjid yang dirancang oleh Frederich Silaban, arsitek Kristen dari Sumatera Utara.

Aku kira, setelah Monas, Masjid Istiqlal adalah tujuan wisata yang paling dicari para wisatawan domestik di Jakarta. Bahkan, kalau waktu wisatanya pendek, banyak yang lebih memilih masjid ini daripada Monas. Bagi kaum muslim, rasanya kurang afdol kalau belum salat di masjid ini bila pertama kali ke Ibu Kota.
