#Archisteem 3: I'm planning to Turn a city parking lot into a park for a day
Hello Steemians, today I would like to share about an international movement known as Park(ing) for converting a city parking lot into a park for a day. I was introduced by a friend of mine who also interested in such activity and planned to make a similar movement in Kota Kinabalu city.
So, what is Park(ing)?
Park(ing) is an open source trademark that allows foreign user to utilize their trademark with their consent to establishing our own mini Park(ing) in our city. Utilizing the trademark allowing us to upload our own design of Park(ing) movement in their webpage which will view by other organizers and visitor from other countries.
Some of the other Park(ing) participant work:
The movement allows participants to design their own best and creative temporary park for the city. Besides designing a picnic like a park, a participant could gamify their design with chess games too, so that it promotes social interaction between city users (residents, tourist or local).
What's up in my mind!
Like Park(ing) movement, I would like to raise a similar initiative in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Why?
To increase awareness of greener city with small-scale project which is financially feasible to be developed. Besides that, it would also start up a Steemit community work in local community, especially in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
And it will be Fun!!!
How?
- Gathering people who share similarly interested to design the temporary park
- Submitting proposal to local authority for permission to utilize a city parking for this project
- After getting approval, getting to build our own setup
- Display, and interact with people
Who can participate?
Anyone who loves to make the city a better place can participate, and I’m looking forward to putting a team for it, please leave a comment or contacting me through my email ([email protected]) if you are interested.
What do we need?
-Man Power: Seeking for personnel who are interested to contribute some of their time and manpower for design and set up the first temporary park.
-Funding: Currently using personal pocket money, but I’m trying utilize Steemit as a platform to create the awareness and seeking support and upvote from fellow Steemit users who would found this initiative productive, helpful, and beneficial to not just personal, but to entire community.
Current idea would like to utilize recyclable material (like the image above) for it, therefore overall cost would be lower and making the project even more feasible to be delivered.
Cost Breakdown
Parking lot (rent): RM 50 (if applicable)
Materials (based on image above): FREE if able to obtain from recycle or RM 150
Plants and vegetation: RM 50
Total Cost structure: RM 250
Cost may vary**
When this project will be implemented
The original date for Park(ing) day movement is on every 15 September. However, we would like to create a similar movement that not only limited to a specific day (15 September). Such movement should be often being created and put to public spaces and tested out our creativity in greenerize city.
Summary
In summary, Park(ing) is a great movement to explore our creativity in designing greener city. Therefore, we seek assistant from people who share a similar interest in designing our own park(ing) movement here in Kota Kinabalu City and participate that not only a seasonal movement. Thus, making cities for all.
Hope you guys enjoying it and please do drop us comments and resteem to spread the word to your fellow friends. We look forward to the contents that will use the tag #archisteem :)
Would love to support this initiative! Keep us updated!
Hi @honjun88, glad you like it. I'll definitely keep this initiative up to date. I have been planning this in 2017 with a friend, but we are totally lack in funding and man power for the moment. Hopefully could gain some traction from here. Thanks for the support.
I am able to chip in if you need someone to look into developing a business proposal containing financial details. Funders usually will want to see these before deciding to support.
interesting initiative. The KK seafront area is quite alright vs whats in KL anyway, that was a few yrs ago. Need to go visit KK again.
. hopefully KK city will become more livable when you visit here again. I will keep you all posted about this initiatives, and thanks for your support. Welcome to Sabah @jameswoo.
Awesome idea! Cool to see this happening in KK! Yamcha to brainstorm soon?
Hi Nuk, it is indeed awesome. Sure, a yamcha is the way for further discussion. Trying to set up a 5-6 man team and currently lack in team members. But we could have Yamcha meanwhile gather up team member. I think we could have yamcha between 5-9 march at night?
