Disguised as a jungle

Archaeologists had previously assumed the existence of ancient buildings on the Kulen Plateau, but until recently they had not been able to verify their version, since the plateau was covered with impenetrable jungle.

A team of Australian researchers, led by Damian Evans, used the method of air laser scanning to study the terrain. In addition to the remnants of structures on the plateau, geometrically flat areas, possibly gardens, were also recorded, as well as traces of complex systems, apparently representing an ancient water pipeline ...

According to scientists, the city belongs to the developed Khmer civilization. The peak of its prosperity fell on the XII century, and by the XIV century it had fallen into decay.

Previously, it was believed that the Khmer were forced to migrate south because of the hostile Thais. However, the latest findings disprove this hypothesis. There is nothing to indicate that the Khmers had to abandon their cities in a hurry.

But much more worried experts other secrets. So, even with the current level of knowledge, experts are not able to explain how ancient people managed to create such architectural masterpieces.

Indeed, the stones from which the buildings are built are so smooth and so tightly fitted together that they can hold together without any fastening mortar ... Many structures look so majestic and harmonious that they are in no way inferior to the examples of classical architecture of the West.
