British scientists have announced the discovery of the largest mint in Europe in the UK. It is a question of one of the cities founded during the Roman Empire.

During the archaeological excavations in the county of North Yorkshire, British specialists came across a site in which up to now there were about 1,400 fragments of impressions used for casting gold, silver and copper coins.

According to scientists, one of the richest Roman settlements could be located on this site. However, archaeologists have not seen records or mentions of such cities. According to the assessment, the approximate date of the founding of a settlement with a large mint is the year 60 AD.

At the same time, everything indicates that after 20-30 years the inhabitants left it. This site continues to be thoroughly investigated by archaeologists, as it is the most ancient settlement of the Romans ever found in the UK.
