I knew of The House of Da Vinci in passing after seeing their kickstarter.
But until my replay and review of The Room quite recently, I hadn't realized the kickstarter had not only been a success (which I expected) but that the game itself was already available for purchase on the Play Store for 5€, where I saw it pop up as a recommendation.

Similar... but not the same !

The Room and The House of Da Vinci share a lot of similar features.

The main "preternatural" effect of the game comes from a lense - like object. In the Room it allows you to see invisible markings and magical locking mechanism, while in THODV (I'm not gonna keep writing out The House Of Da Vinci now am I ? 😛) it's got a more uniform, but also powerful utility:

combining this with the traditional puzzle solving mechanics makes for some interesting hijinks !

This graphics seem very reminiscent of The Room too, but in a high quality way.

there's plenty to work with in the game, all of it based on the actual inventions and historical context of Da Vinci... With some magickal funsies thrown in for good measure 😉

There's a lot of plot in the game too, which puts it apart from the Room with its relatively obscure plot.

The above book shows off the names of every kickstarter backer... There were 4-5 of these books strewn acrosd the library 😆

at first the puzzles seemed a bit boring the search collect place kind, but THODV quickly disabuse me of the notion it was just a copycat of The Room (even if I'm sure they took most if their inspiration therefrom )

even more puzzles, with entirely different premises, whereas the Room was "solve the box " from start to finish (though The Room 2 and onward varied the pleasures a bit more too 😍 ).

and De Vinci inventions often dominate the puzzles, making for some slightly modified history lessons !

speaking of history lessons, on your quest to find your Master, Da Vinci, you'll sometimes find the schematics for some of his inventions, which serve as achievements and are explained in accurate details in the separate achievement page... With a functional 3d model to demonstrate !!

I wish we could bring him back... The man could have started the entire industrial revolution singlehandedly if he'd had the tech and time 😂

The puzzles get even more complex as you go on, with even more intricate ways to solve them.

The only real critique I have is how the game had some hidden elements that took me so much time to find, or just never occurred to me, that I shamefully must confess to having used the hint function 😦

but other than a few hidden things like that, I wholeheartedly recommend anyone having liked The Room to try The House Of Da Vinci on for size. I guarantee it'll be a fun experience !!!

I still prefer the room, but only because I've played The Room: Old Sins, 2 and the other versions, and they've got some major bonuses in terms of length and complexity to them !!!
