Rohingya Patient Killed at Cox’s Bazaar Refugee Camp

Balukhali: A Rohingya refugee living in Balukhali camp 19 of Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh, died allegedly due to unnecessary surgeries performed on him at the hospital on 1st August 2018, report locals.
The victim was originally hailing from Monnafara Village of Buthidaung Township of Arakan (Rakhine) state.
Earlier on that day, the victim was complaining of a stomach ache and then he was taken to a nearby clinic. Later, the doctors at the clinic advised the patient’s family to move him to a bigger hospital.

Following the doctor’s advice, he was taken to the MSF hospital located at Gundum makeshift camp. There, the doctor conducted five to six surgeries all over the body.
Just for a stomach ache, he was operated from chest to naval button, neck and including the private part as well.
According to family members, they believe his kidneys, testes, spinal cord and other organs were taken away from his body. These organs are usually taken from many patients illegally for selling them, which are in high demand.

Earlier in many cases, Rohingya refugee patients at clinics and hospitals faced negligence and doctors’ abuses. There are even reports of rape and murder at hospitals on Rohingya patients.
Usually, these cases get unreported as the victim’s family fear of shame in the society and further abuses as well.
