Monsoon Landslide Hit Refugee Camps, Killing A Rohingya Infant

Cox’s Bazaar: A Rohingya child have been killed in a landslide occurred due to initial monsoon rain, which hit destructively in refugee camp of Bangladesh on 11th June 2018, report sources.
Gumdum area is one of the vast hilly area that holds a large sum of Rohingya refugees in hillocks. There a recent landslide have left a child dead and injured the mother critically.

The refugee is reported to be hailing from block D, E3 hill of Gundum area. The Child is identified to be Farek S/O Abdushukkur, 3 and the injured child’s mother is Sokina Khatu, 30.
In the tragic incident, the boy died immediately at the scene and according to locals mother was hospitalized immediately, due to critical injuries.
According to officials, later on 12th June, similar landslides in other refugee camps have killed at least 12 other Rohingya.

In another separate incident in a refugee camp, a Rohingya pregnant women was discriminated and ill-treated in a MSF hospital on 10th June 2018.
Initially at 11:00 pm she was admitted in the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hospital, due to severe labor pain. There patients wasn’t allowed to meet her mother and in addition, she was insulted.
According to them, these discrimination was done by few Hindu nurses, whom work there. Due to the ill-treatment there, she had to leave the hospital at 12:00 pm and was admitted to a hospital in Cox’s Bazaar district.

This rainy season became a curse for the Rohingya in the Refugee camps of Bangladesh. Earlier this season was a blessing for the Rohingya in their ancestral land Arakan (Rakhine), where they used to grow and cultivate different crops. Their season of hope and dream have turned into tragedy in the makeshift camps of Bangladesh.
