Dirt Accumulation Increases Risks of Infectious Diseases

Cox’s Bazaar: Dirt accumulation across the various refugee camps have increased infectious such as chicken pox, cholera, diarrhea, etc. among the Rohingya children, reports a parent today (16th January 2019)

Rohingya children playing in the dirt accumulated makeshift camps are getting infected with severe infectious diseases, especially on their skin.

Due to the lack of play ground and open space for Rohingya children, they are compelled to play in the dirt accumulated places, which are nearby to their shelters.

The dirt accumulation scene is everywhere common in most of the makeshift camps. Only a few in Kutupalong registered camp have appointe cleaners for the area.

In some areas of newly makeshift camps, MSF provides some cleaning medicines for cleaning purpose, which reduces some odor and prevents insect accumulation as well.

The chemicals provided by MSF are not given in every areas and lack of cleaners have worsened the dirt accumulation.

The increment of dirt has risked the lives of the Rohingya, especially the children and elderly.

Recently chicken pox virus has infected hundreds of Rohingya children in the refugee camps, where different health organizations such as MSF, WHO, and others are seen to be doing some awareness and treatment campaigns.
