High-speed DNS-service will speed up the download sites on smartphones
The company CloudFlare has released mobile applications with support for a free DNS-service 1.1.1.1, which makes surfing the web faster and safer. The new program automatically encrypts all DNS requests - so that the cellular operator cannot find out which sites the user is accessing.
Without the service of a domain name system (domain name system, DNS), Internet users would have to enter long sequences of numbers in the address bar of the browser instead of simple and understandable site names. DNS servers are responsible for the transformation of domain names - machines that "translate" domain names into a number language that is understandable to network equipment. In some countries, authorities also use DNS to restrict access to Internet sites and services that cause them discomfort. Typically, your ISP provides the DNS service, but you can configure the device to work with third-party DNS servers.
This makes CloudFlare, replacing third party DNS-servers on their own. As a result, DNS requests are processed "28% faster than any other public server", which leads to a faster start to download sites. The speed, however, very much depends on the operator: with the 1.1.1.1 enabled, the increment can be either very significant or insignificant.
In addition, the program provides private web surfing. "Using a secure connection, 1.1.1.1 ensures that no one can spy on your DNS queries" say the developers, "Some Internet service providers sell your DNS data. Cloudflare will never trade your information and target ads" In Cloudflare they promise that its service does not record the IP addresses of users, and the history of requests is not stored for more than a day, which is confirmed by an independent audit of KPMG.
1.1.1.1 is available for download from Google Play and the App Store. Advertising and paid features of this application is not. After installation, the program will offer to set up a VPN profile, after which all DNS traffic will be passed through CloudFlare servers. This also means that you will not be able to use other VPN services.
