Mt. Mauyog is a famous hiking spot in Cebu due to its proximity to the city and its breathtaking view. Access to Mt. Mauyog is only about 1 hour drive from the city proper via Cebu Transcentral Highway. Another 30 minutes drive from the highway and you will reach the base of the mountain.

It's usually paired with Mt. Manunggal as it's just on the opposite side of the mountain. You can have two mountains conquered in just one hike.

Climb to Mt. Mauyog is a geologic experience as Mt. Manunggal's a historical one. According to our guide, Mt. Mauyog got its name from shaky soil in the area. It's due to its unique composition. The guide said that the mountain is composed of ragged rocks with hollow spaces and crevices. Those crevices were covered with soil and plant roots. As a result, you can experience a bouncy feeling as you hike to the summit.

The one I was sitting on was the east side of the peak and the rock formation was a result of thousands of years of weathering. Just imagine that every drop of rain will carry away a single grain of that calcium carbonate rich rock. The result would be a brain-like rock formations.

It's a humbling experience for me. In a geologic timescale, we are just nothing. It means that nature is so patient with its own artwork.

You should try visiting Mt. Mauyog!

Wow, that are some crazy erosion features. Mega beautiful. I guess the rock is carbonate? Would make sense with all the hollowed our parts. Wish I could hike it as well 😄

Yes. Those rocks are carbonates. That's why they are relatively easy to erode.

Thanks for the clarification 😃
