Its true, ETC is the non-forked version of Ethereum and ETH is the fork after the DAO hack in 2016. Thats why the name is Ethereum Classic, because its the original Ethereum ("classic edition"). But in 2016 the most people of the Ethereum community decided to support the new ETH and not ETC. Thats why the new ETH became more popular and I think its because of the short name "ETH". Maybe if the developers wouldn't changed the name, ETC would be more popular now...

I wonder how many of the DEVS stayed on the original, ETC? That would be an interesting piece of information also. It does also explain why a lot of people use ETC to still build new projects upon or at least until EOS showed up. I'm not sure how many are still building new tokens on ETC.
