Sombre beach scene. I don't know what could have happened here but this beached ...

... sea lion didn't make it. It was quite a disturbing scene to happen upon and quite traumatizing for my ten year old daughter who'd onky ever seen one alive, out off the coast. Her overactive empathic mind trying to figure out how something like this could have happened. She was also mystified and troubled at how her three year old brother was not having the same reaction... He wanted to touch it in fact. Super curious about the situation.

It had been there long enough that the smell of decay was in the area, with unfortunately was just the area of the beach we were coming to explore. So made for a short visit.

I wanted to shrug it all off with a " #cycleoflife oh well" but there is something haunting about the missing head. I can't discount some nefarious human activity anymore and that is troubling.

Sigh. #beachlife in a coastal town. Never a dull moment.
