This is a four man canoe called a cayuco, local to Panama. There is a race thru the Panama Canal that lasts three days, it was started by the Boy Scouts 60 years ago when the US was in control of the Panama Canal. Now Panama keeps the tradition going. This canoe has no ama (side wheel) and requires a lot do balance especially in the waves. We practice 35k because the second day of the ocean to ocean race thru the Panama Canal is from the first lock on the Caribbean side of Panama thru Gatun Lake up to Gamboa about an hour outside Panama City. This lake is 35km long stretch, in fact up till the 30s was the largest man-made lake in the world. It was made for the Panama Canal. โจ
Now with one without the side โwheelโ ๐ Hope you still have some strength left in your arms after 35km.
