Born in Avdou Village, he studies in Crete and in Athens, where he is enchanted by scientific research and comes back to his island to become a teacher. Later on he becomes a curator of antiquities and a director of the Archaeological Museum. Xanthoudidis has written numerous essays about Crete excavations and laography, and has been characterized as the "First scientist Cretologist, the Nestor of Cretan Studies"
