Apacer shows the AS2280Q4 PCIe Gen4 SSD with M.2 form factor

in #apacer5 years ago

During the Computex in Taipei and following AMD's presentation of the new X570 platform, several SSD manufacturers gave clear signals that they were ready to market PCIe Gen4 units, capable of bringing even further the limit of the already highly valued Gen3 interface.

PCIe Gen4's theoretical limit of four channels, those used for the best SSDs on M.2 socket, is now "limited" to 400MB / s, a value that will double with the massive adoption of the PCIe fourth generation. Apacer showed its stand an SSD that in reading exceeded 5000MB / s and in writing 4500MB / s, which in practice means 10 times better performance than a good SATA SSD.

Here is the model photographed with the initials AP240GAS2280P4 at Computex. The presence of a Phison PS5001-11 controller as well as the capacity of 240 GB can be guessed, although it is easy to assume that it will also be available in more generous cuts.

Oddly, and it's not the first time we notice this Computex, there's some caution in declaring the performance values, preferring to stay down. We saw this SSD working with the most commonly used benchmarks and well exceeded 5000MB / s in reading. After 7/7, we will know more about the date chosen by AMD to officially release the new processors and related platforms compatible with PCIe Gen4.
