(b. 29 Dec 1892, Oamaru; d. 2 May 1915, Gallipoli)

He had signed up to fight during August of 1914, and joined the Otago Infantry Battalion, where he was assigned to the 10th Regiment.
As a civilian he'd been working as a labourer, and was single.

His military records show he was awarded the service medals The Star, the British Medal, and the Victory Medal. When he died he was still a Private.
His burial and memorial is at the Lone Pine Cemetery, Anzac, Turkey.

There was a small mention of his being one of the campaign casualties, in the newspaper:

and his parents subsequently placed a death notice in the paper:

Aside from this, there is scant information about William or his life before going off to war, and little else to remember him by.

Notes:
His parents were John Alexander CALDER (b. 1862; d. 13 Oct 1949, Oamaru) and Mary Ann PAGE (b. 1858, NZ; d. 26 Sep 1924, Maheno).
They married in NZ during 1892.
From the little I could find, I think John was a sheep farmer.

Other children:

  • Jessie Helen (b. 1894)
  • Marjory (b. 1895)
  • Margaret Hilda (b. 1896)
