Antique Trunk restoration "pat,jul,9,1872"steemCreated with Sketch.

in #antique6 years ago (edited)

Fortunate to come across this Beautiful Antique hump back Trunk. Made and sold in 1872 for middle class Americans. Sold out of the Sears catalog 146 years ago. I had to have it. What a peace of history!!

Immediately having to make a choice whether I should leave it the way it is or do a "light" restoration. Working day and night to grind the rust away it started to look amazing.

The detail begins to show threw the rust looking beautiful. Like new, the Tin sheeting shines bright with new life.

A work in progress. Truly a master piece and something unique we dont see everyday.

During my research I found https://www.brettunsvillage.com/trunks/howto/parts/tools/. A website that gives great tips on how to clean and restore a "Trunk".

The inside of my Trunk smelled like natural old wood. A antique smell if you would call it. No treasures found other then a art piece that was plasterd on the inside.

Original leather straps that still hold strong to this day. Threw out this light restoration I try to keep everything original. So my objective here was to simply clean all the rust off and give new life to my Trunk.

With so many hands taking grasp of these leather straps it makes me think of all the stuff thats happened in 146 years. Being fortunate enough to own this an Antique Trunk is a honor. When people come over to visit they think its a Pirate chest.
