Thoughts on Netflix's Death Note Movie

For those who are wondering, if you are going to watch this, expecting the movie as an adaptation from the anime or manga, you will be disappointed. I have watched the anime and have seen segments and read whole plot summaries of the Japanese live action movie as well.
On the other hand, as a movie, it's not so bad. This movie was definitely produced with the idea that not many people have seen the anime or manga. Yes, it may be an iconic series that anime anime fan knows, but it's taking account to everyone else as well.
The only problems I had with it would be some of first half's narrative and how some of the characters' names have direct correlation to the original work. It wouldn't be so bad if they just changed the name of some of the characters since they're spin-offs of the original characters. They're not bad, but if they're different, why not just change the name? Also, I felt that it would be better if Light and Mia were initially together from the beginning rather than rush into a relationship as this is a movie that runs for less than 2 hours.
Aside from the negatives, without spoiling to much, I like how they much they translated the essence of what made Death Note and put it into the screen play into the last part of the movie. The twists were great and I like how the movie emphasizes that, at the end, the characters we have are just human, they make mistakes and how personal connections.
Actually surprised how this turned out and am looking forward for a sequel of some sort. I am willing to talk about my reasoning in the comments and am open to hearing anyone else's opinion.
