Basically, it’s because gon is not afraid to go after what he wants. And even more crazy is the fact that he does not battle the main villain most of the time which is unusual for a shounen anime. He takes on people way above his strength and loses which is so comparable to life. Think about any big goal you want to achieve you almost always fail and run into obstacles along the way.
But he always trains and has an optimistic attitude. He kind of reminds of Les Brown in a way. Gon Freecs the animated personality of Les Brown.
