A place further than the universe .

Sora yori mo tooi basho, or "Yorimoi", as it is often abbreviated, is a 13-episode anime that began airing on TVs in Japan and also Crunchyroll between January 2 and March 27, 2018.

Original series from the same Madhouse team that created "No game, no life". But totally away from the theme and style of it. And, in my opinion, it's a great series.

In this case we are facing a series of lifestyle experiences. But what is shown are not ordinary everyday lives at all. Since its protagonists want to reach Antarctica. This is very far from the typical series of experiences. And about 14,000 kilometers from Tokyo.

The character design reminds K-On, with high school students, similar personalities. Even the song of the opening has a brief touch of initial battery similar to the series of Kyoto Animation.

But this series, as I said, goes further than an anime of experiences of KyoAni, A-1 Pictures or Silver Link. There is also an episode that is quite reminiscent of the stage and the action to "Yama no susume" of the 8-Bit Studio, also high school girls who climb mountains and see sunrises (go-raikō).

But here, the characters have a special aura, an extra layer that ends up hooking you in depth.

In "Yorimoi" there is a continuous story line, which chapter after chapter leads to the conclusion of the series. With fantastic drawings you can recognize different scenarios that transport you to different places in Japan and the world with a lot of realism. And in each episode we know a little more each character each time.

We laugh with them. They are struggling for them. We will get angry with them; And we will cry But only a little. Dammit!; If you have a milligram of empathy prepares several cubes to evacuate tears with the penultimate episode. Or skip it. Seriously, I say it. Episode 12 ends with the biggest punch in all the "feels" I've felt in an anime in a long time. A dose of reality that, perhaps you do not expect in such an anime so sweet and full of candor moe. Although almost the entire series is full of anticipations and we know that the time will come when we will have to face it, as intensely as the protagonists we have accompanied.

But the final sensation with episode 13 is to want more Yorimoi. Pure poetry and several fantastic epilogues that leave a good taste in your mouth. To close everything that is told is not enough.

After having enjoyed each and every one of the episodes of the series.

The most important issues are the value and origin of friendship. The achievement of their own goals, dreams and dreams despite what others think or do. The constancy and determination. The loss of a loved one. And, of course, travel to the South Pole. A life experience that is worth living even in the form of anime.

The title of the series brings surprise because it has the word space 宇宙 that is normally read Uchū; but they give him the reading, also valid in Japanese of Sora; What does heaven mean? It is a more poetic way of saying "A place farther away than space".

Translate it into "universe" in Spanish I think it would not look good, since everything is part of the universe and you can not get away from what you are part of; Space, however, is interpreted as what is beyond the atmosphere of our planet.

The title of the series makes more sense within the main plot where a book with that title is continuously spoken and the phrase "Sora yori mo tooi basho" is said and also with the other reading "Uchū yori mo tooi basho" in different contexts.

Something that perhaps requires understanding a little more literature and Japanese folklore to understand the use that is made of words in each moment. I would interpret it so that when they say Uchū (space or universe) they can indirectly allude to the myth that people who die become stars and go to space as in "Night Train of the Milky Way" by Kenji Miyazawa. And that place is too far from our reach.

Sort:

Miyasawa's Night... has influenced so many works, including anime, that it is okay to say it has become subconcious memory, Maid-chan says. As such your conclusion may be a full hit.
