Maid-chan no Anime: Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz!

Konnichiwa! Maid-chan desu!

It is summer break in Illya’s world! That means beach, festivals and hot nights!

Do you still remember? Last week Maid-chan reviewed Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei!, and now it is time for the third season!
Why does Maid-chan do the reviews in this way? Because the arcs feel very different from each other and because there are so many ultra cute screenshots that Maid-chan wants to show you! Feel the love!

Prisma 2 ended with Bazett going back to the mage’s association with the news of an eight card and our team with time on her hands, because this card is buried deep under the sea. Well, the beach.

The three magical girls Illya, Kuro and Miyu have summer break and use them to the fullest. There are many different activities and events to have fun, like the beach festival.

But the beach is not he only place to have fun, and the Einzbern’s family plus extensions have a chance to enjoy a new lion-themed theme park. There they meet the school nurse who is in the park to enjoy the screams of crying children.

And the three get introduced to what their school friend has awakened to. A dangerous thing, and not suited for little girls!

Maid-chan would never have thought that Kuro could ever get embarrassed!

As you can imagine, there is not a lot of fighting going on in those days. The first half of the 2wei Herz arc is completely peaceful summer excitement. It is nearly like a slice of life anime. That may not suit everyone’s taste, especially if you compare it to the first, action laden arc.

But every fun has to end eventually and the digging operation towards the eight card is finally finished. To prepare for the upcoming fight with an unknown enemy, there is a last party at Luvias’s house, and Rin gets to say this sentence:

Ah, tsundere Rin is also cute, right?

The next day it is time to venture down the steps of hell. And there, deep under the beach, the final enemy awaits for our heroes to beat into meat.

But of course it would be boring if this happens so easily. The enemy is way stronger than the heroes thought. The team barely manages to escape. Or so they think, because the enemy breaks through the barriers between the worlds, arriving in Illyas world.

But the enemy is not targeting the magical girls, instead it is heading for the town, searching for something. As the puzzle pieces fall together, it is revealed that the enemy is searching for a Holy Grail and that there is the Holy Grail magic circle created by the Einzberns inside a mountain near the city.

It is now useless, the Holy Grail War around Illya’s and Kuro’s birth has ended. But the enemy is not from this world, and in the other world there still is a Holy Grail. The two worlds somehow connect for a moment and Illya must face a new enemy, bigger than any before.

A bit unfair, don’t you think?

The magical girls and the mages do what they can, but they cannot harm the monster that has appeared. What is even worse, the monster abducts Miyu!

Illya orders Ruby to use the final trump card, a super Saija… super transformation that is very dangerous but also incredible powerful. With this power, Illya manages to defeat the monster and rescue Miyu.

With the magical girl work done, the girls go back finishing their other work: homework for school.
Little do they know what happens a few days later, when the crater from their fight suddenly disappears and two new foes come into this world…

Conclusion

The third season of Prisma Illya has a very different feeling to it in the first half. Of course there are some signs of upcoming darkness, but the girls don’t see them, only the viewer. As such the three can do whatever they want and have as much fun as they can. The episodes themselves are well made and fun, but don’t fit in the usual “safe the world” pacing. Fillers.

The anime tries to make up for this by first overdosing you with cuteness, followed by an incredible series of fight scenes. Unfortunately the climax doesn’t have the impact it should have because it feels like it is coming too fast.

Still, seeing the girls grow closer to each other and even Miyu opening up and smiling is a good substitute. Prisma Illya is overflowing with cuteness that tops even the best of “normal” magical girl animes.

All in all Maid-chan gives Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! a 9/10 on the totally objective Maid-chan scale, with a tendency downwards.
