Daily Anime Pick #14 - Nagi no Asukara

in #anime7 years ago

Today's pick in the Daily Anime Pick-Series where I pick one anime each day that I think is worth watching is Nagi no Asukara!

Nagi no Asukara isn't your typical romance anime it is something different. The story evolves around a group of kids that live beneath the sea. In this anime humans originally lived in the sea but some chose to move to the surface. Those who left the sea were stripped of the ability to breathe underwater. Our group of protagonists are still living in the sea but they attend a school on the surface. Now this is probably a setting that you won't have seen before but that's not what makes this anime different from other romance animes. In this anime there are not stereotypes the characters are unpredictable. But that doesn't mean that their actions doesn't make sense. The story is well thought out and you won't be disappointed from the beginning to the very end. You'll encounter some drastic plot turns around the corner and you won't see it coming. The art style can be wholly described as beautiful. It's almost as you are right there. The music is very similar in terms of being beautiful and it clearly has a sea-ish touch to it. Just have a quick listen to the first opening. I was totally amazed when I first watched it. If you want an anime full of emotions and an exciting story waiting to be discovered by you then don't waste any more time and start watching!

Nagi no Asukara

Description

Long ago, all humans lived beneath the sea. However, some people preferred the surface and abandoned living underwater permanently. As a consequence, they were stripped of their god-given protection called "Ena" which allowed them to breathe underwater. Over time, the rift between the denizens of the sea and of the surface widened, although contact between the two peoples still existed.

Nagi no Asukara follows the story of Hikari Sakishima and Manaka Mukaido, along with their childhood friends Chisaki Hiradaira and Kaname Isaki, who are forced to leave the sea and attend a school on the surface. There, the group also meets Tsumugu Kihara, a fellow student and fisherman who loves the sea.

Hikari and his friends' lives are bound to change as they have to deal with the deep-seated hatred and discrimination between the people of sea and of the surface, the storms in their personal lives, as well as an impending tempest which may spell doom for all who dwell on the surface.
