Yoru Sumino’s ‘Kimi no Suizō o Tabetai’ (I Want To Eat Your Pancreas) is getting an anime film adaptation, premiering in 2018. Film employees have also opened the footage along with a new website for the film and a teaser trailer.
The novel tells the story from an unknown high schooler's perspective. He finds himself in a hospital one day and finds a diary of his classmate, Sakura Yamauchi. He reads the diary and finds out that Sakura has a pancreatic illness. Sakura says that no one other than the protagonist and his family knows about her condition. So, he promises to keep Sakura's condition secret. Despite having different personalities, he lives with Sakura in the last few months of her life.
The novel inspired a live-action film adaption that premiered on July 28 in Japan. It also inspired a manga adaption by Idumi Kirihara.
