Kakegurui anime review # 3
Hello friends of steemit! Today I am going to talk to you about Kakegurui. The 2017 left some series to talk about, some that started very well and then fell, others that are unquestionably the best there was and others that, as always, are "the heap". This time I bring you one that caused a lot of stir, both for its style and for what it proposed. This is Kakegurui, a series where madness and ambition come together to give a very special result.

Like many private academies, the Hyakkaou teems with students belonging to incredibly wealthy families; however, what differentiates it from any other is the way in which students resolve their status: bets. Betting and gambling are expected in some well-known cities, but in an academy this is not really common; for this reason, the Hyakkaou academy stands out, and not only for that, but because the risks that exist when betting and the most recognized characters as expert bettors are, by far, eccentric and even completely disproportionate. In addition, the members of the student council have established very particular rules: if someone has lost any amount of money and is unable to pay it, it is marked as a pochi - ポ チ (in the case of men) or a mike - ミ ケ (in the case of men). case of women). Belonging to these categories has quite disastrous consequences, basically these people cease to be human, and become things, slaves who have no choice but to obey and let themselves be humiliated by their condition.
It is in this environment, full of risks and follies, that our protagonist, Yumeko Jabami, who apparently is just another new student, fresh meat, for the big punters, arrives; However, everyone is surprised to discover that she is a maniac addicted to betting, who will not rest until she quenches her thirst to bet with the best and most challenging players of the academy: the members of the student council.
Kakegurui an old formula with a new nuance?
We've all seen the same story over and over again: a prestigious academy, where everything is decided in some strange way (martial arts, as the most traditional of them), a loser must welcome a new student who ends up challenging any authority is on its way, turning the whole status quo upside down. Kakegurui does not bring anything new in this sense, we already saw that it fits perfectly in this pattern. But what could differentiate it are three things: the strange form of control is, in this case, through bets; the aesthetics that the protagonists (particularly women) handle are incredible, I must say that is what I liked most about this series and, finally, the more or less intellectual factor by which our dear Yumeko discovers and studies the possibilities and details that make each bet a fight to the death. Of course, this has also been seen, as in No game no life, but this time with less air of gamers and more deranged addicts to betting, particularly the risk that comes from them.
I do not know if the strength of this series is its premise, but actually I think it manages to stand out for the eccentric characters and the twisted reactions that these women make, that is, Kakegurui's strength is his aesthetics (at least that's my opinion) .
On the other hand, the structure of these series forces you - to a great extent - to keep the work focused on what makes you different. Ikki Tousen, on the other hand, keeps you in the voluptuous bodies that are again and again in combat; Tenjou Tenge also fulfills a similar strategy. The big problem of Kakegurui, as I see it, is that they tried in a moment to give some history to something that should not have it. The great strength of this series is its aesthetics and the amazing ability of analysis that the characters have of a situation of chance, such as games; however, at one point the series fell apart as it began to add history (poorly developed, by the way) and a supposedly unhelpful romance. When this happens, I feel that the series lost its essence, lost that which made you think of the madness of each character, and this is why it came to nothing in reality.
Finally, I would like to talk a little about the technical aspects. The animation itself is well taken care of, there are very few spaces where you lose a touch the level, but nothing that affects so much in reality. The detail of the expressions in the characters played a fundamental role and helped the series hit the nail on the head with everything it had. The opening, which is really something that I'm not usually interested in, I really liked it, it's an excellent prelude to what's coming in the series without falling into a spoiler. Yes we must highlight the voices, sometimes the screams and the reactions are so alarming that it seems that the seiyuu will faint at any time, but it is only a detail that I wanted to mention.
And well guys, if you liked the post do not forget to follow me and give me a vote, it would help me a lot: D
