Episode summary :
On August 10, 2010 of the imperial calendar, the Holy Empire of Britannia, a planetary superpower, declared war on Japan for their subsoil resources. Thanks to the "Knightmare Frames", anthropomorphic mechas, they defeated Japan, which was renamed "Area 11" and controlled by Britannia. The story takes place seven years after the war, in 2017 A.T.B, which means "Ascension Throne Britannia", at the residential area of the Britannian in Tokyo concession.
We find there Lelouch Lamperouge with his friend Rivalz both high school students, after having beaten a nobleman in chess with ease, Lelouch while wanting to return to the school with his friend, finds himself in an altercation between the army and Japanse terrorists (who call themselves Eleven) who stole a supposed toxic gas. During this altercation, he finds his former friend Suzaku who joined the army, but who takes a bullet in his back for insubordination, to save Lelouch's life. His condition is unknown.
At the same time, we learn that the gas was in reality only a girl, who before her death by taking a bullet in Lelouch's place, gives her a power that allows her to give the order of her choice to any person. So he could kill the soldiers who planned to kill him, with the phrase "Lelouch vi Britannia orders you, all of you... Die!". Why does he call himself Lelouch Lamperouge when he says his name is Lelouch vi Britannia and especially, who is she, this girl?
The scenario :
The scenario of this first episode is good, indeed, it allows us to introduce ourselves into history through temporal events such as the beginning of the war against Japan and telling us that the story unfolds seven years after that, it also situates us in space with the Tokyo concession and the ghetto. It puts directly into the atmosphere with the help of television at the beginning which announces us a terrorist attack, one can then imagine that it is the daily life of the Britannian in this fictional world.
The passage on a Britannian high school allows us to see the friends of Lelouch and Rivalz, and speaking of Britannian, through Lelouch, we notice that they consider the Elevens almost as monsters, but those who really are, are the Britannian soldiers who are not embarrassed to kill innocent people or even children in the ghetto.
Now in the episode itself, the chess game makes us see Lelouch's modesty, his hatred towards the nobles and especially his intelligence that we will see again when he deducts the position of the truck in which he is stuck. We learn he wants to change the world, maybe because of his hatred for Britannian people? And finally, the introduction of some knightmare allows us to show us their power, but those of the army seems to have a technical advantage.
How will I grade this script? I will say 16/20, it allows us to imagine the universe in which the story takes place and the end of the episode leaves us some tracks for the continuation of events.
The realization :
I have very little to say about the film, when we see Lelouch and Suzaku young, we see a soldier making a tribute to dead people by burning them, it's a small detail, but who says a lot, like the terrorist who blew himself up with the truck, we only knew him for one episode, but the fact of showing a picture of him, his wife and his son makes this scene poignant. Several times in the episode, small comments are made by people to bring the pressure down, such as :
The school rescue brigade!
A Britannian citizen who says that when Lelouch gets off to help the people in the truck after impact.
So this is a hit-and-run.
Rivalz's comment when the truck leaves after impact.
He hung up on me, the bastard!
The girl who called Lelouch when he was in a...delicate situation let's say ^^'.
What grade will I give to the production? 15/20, small details give an atmosphere to the episode, but is spoilt by comic comments like those quoted above.
Animation :
It is, on the whole, fairly homogeneous, it does its job without trying to do better. Only a few passages are really artistically beautiful:
3D animation when Lelouch orders soldiers to die.
When the girl speaks in Lelouch's thoughts, there are beautiful scenes.
The note? 13.5/20, unfortunately, some scary passages to see, these are usually distant shots.
The soundtrack:
I have absolutely nothing to say about the seiyuu, they do an excellent job of dubbing, especially since the expression on the faces are in connection with the emotions in the voice of the seiyuu. OSTs give a real atmosphere and are very well placed, especially in moments that are already tense. Sound effects in general are good, why in general? Because of the sound of guns at the end of the episode... It looks like they're shooting with ball pistols...
Other than that, what do you want to know? (THE NOTE !) Thanks for not shouting, I put a 15.5/20 for the soundtrack for the reasons mentioned above (I might talk about opening and ending in a dedicated post, what do you think? Say it in comment so I know;) ).
My feeling:
The most subjective part since it is "my feeling". So don't rely too much on this part :)
Already... WHY HAVE PROJECTORS ALSO GREAT?! I calm down, okay, but just why?

Still waiting for the note? 16/20, I really felt the emotions they wanted to get through this episode thanks to the several rereads for this article, so I think this note is justified.
Balance sheet :
What can we expect from the next episode? We know that there is a pilot missing for a "Lancelot" in Britannian's army, did Suzaku survive? And who is this "Nunnaly" that we see briefly at the end? When the girl says "The power of kings will plunge you into solitude", what does she mean by that, and who is she? Who is this man who speaks of the "Ragnarok junction"? Is Lelouch using his power, because we see him questioning the scene he just saw.
That's a 76/100 for this episode.

Résumé de l'épisode :
Le 10 août 2010 du calendrier impérial, le Saint-Empire de Britannia, une super-puissance planétaire, déclarèrent la guerre au Japon pour les ressources de leur sous-sol. Grâce aux "Knightmare Frames", des mécha anthropomorphes, ils vainquirent le Japon, qui se fut renommé "Area 11" et contrôlé par Britannia. L'histoire se déroule sept ans après la guerre, en 2017 A.T.B, qui signifie "Ascension Throne Britannia" ou "L'Ascension au Trône de Britannia", à la zone résidentielle des Britanniens dans la concession de Tokyo.
On y retrouve Lelouch Lamperouge avec son ami Rivalz tous deux lycéens, après avoir battu un noble aux échecs avec aise, Lelouch en voulant retourner au lycée avec son ami, se retrouve dans une altercation entre l'armée et des terroristes japonais (qui se font appeler Eleven) qui ont volé un supposé gaz toxique. Pendant cette altercation, il y retrouve son ancien ami Suzaku qui s'est engagé dans l'armé, mais qui se prend une balle dans le dos pour insubordination, pour sauver la vie de Lelouch. Son état est inconnu.
On y apprend par la même occasion que le gaz n'était qu'en réalité une fille, qui avant sa mort en se prenant une balle à la place de Lelouch, lui transmet un pouvoir qui lui permet de donner l'ordre de son choix à n'importe quelle personne. Ainsi, il put tuer les militaires qui projetaient de le tuer, avec la phrase "Lelouch vi Britannia vous ordonne, tous autant que vous êtes... Mourez !". Pourquoi se fait-il appeler Lelouch Lamperouge alors qu'il dit se nommer Lelouch vi Britannia et surtout, qui est-elle, cette fille ?
Le scénario :
Le scénario de ce premier épisode est bon, en effet, il nous permet de nous introduire dans l'histoire à l'aide d'évènements temporels tels que le début de la guerre contre le Japon et le fait de nous dire que l'histoire se déroule sept ans après cela, il nous situe également dans l'espace avec la concession de Tokyo et le ghetto. Il met directement dans l'ambiance à l'aide la télévision au début qui nous annonce une attaque terroriste, on peut alors s'imaginer que c'est le quotidien des Britanniens dans ce monde fictif.
Le passage sur un lycée Britannien nous permet de voir les amis de Lelouch et de Rivalz, et en parlant de Britanniens, à travers Lelouch, on remarque qu'ils considèrent les Elevens presque comme des monstres, mais ceux qui le sont réellement, ce sont les soldats Britanniens qui n'ont aucune gêne à tuer des innocents voir même des enfants dans le ghetto.
Maintenant dans l'épisode en lui-même, la partie d'échec nous fait voir la modestie de Lelouch, sa haine envers les nobles et surtout son intelligence qu'on reverra quand il déduit la position du camion dans le quel il est coincé. On apprend qu'il veut changer le monde, peut-être à cause de sa haine envers les Britanniens ? Et finalement, l'introduction de quelques knightmare permet de nous montrer leur puissance, mais ceux de l'armée semble avoir un avantage technique.
Quelle note je vais donner à ce scénario ? Je dirai 16/20, il nous permet de s'imaginer l'univers dans lequel se déroule l'histoire et la fin de l'épisode nous laisse quelques pistes pour la suite des évènements.
La réalisation :
Je n'ai que peu de chose à dire sur la réalisation, quand on voit Lelouch et Suzaku jeunes, on voit un soldat faire un hommage à des personnes décédées en les brûlant, c'est un petit détaille, mais qui en dit beaucoup, comme le terroriste qui s'est fait exploser avec le camion, on ne l'a connu que pour un épisode, mais le fait de montrer une photo de lui, de sa femme et de son fils rend cette scène poignante. Plusieurs fois dans l'épisode, des petits commentaires sont dits par des personnes pour faire redescendre la pression, telles que :
La brigade scolaire de secours !
Un citoyen Britannien qui dit ça quand Lelouch descend pour aider les personnes du camion après l'impact.
Alors c'est ça un délit de fuite.
Le commentaire de Rivalz quand le camion repart après l'impact.
Il m'a raccroché au nez, l'enfoiré !
La fille qui a appelé Lelouch quand il était dans une situation...Délicate on va dire ^^'.
Quelle note je vais donner à la réalisation ? 15/20, des petits détailles donne une ambiance à l'épisode, mais est gâché par des commentaires comiques comme ceux cité dessus.
L'animation :
Elle est, dans l'ensemble, assez homogène, elle fait son travail sans essayer de faire mieux. Seulement quelques passages sont vraiment beau artistiquement :
- L'animation 3D quand Lelouch ordonne aux soldats de mourir.
- Quand la fille parle dans les pensées de Lelouch, il y a des scènes magnifiques.
La note ? 13.5/20, malheureusement, quelques passages font peur à voir, ce sont généralement les plans éloignés.
La bande son :
Je n'ai absolument rien à dire sur les seiyuu, ils font un excellent travail de doublage, surtout que l'expression sur les visages sont en raccord avec les émotions dans la voix des seiyuu. Les OST donnent une réelle ambiance et sont très bien placées, surtout dans les moments déjà tendus. Les bruitages en général sont bons, pourquoi en général ? À cause du bruit des pistolets à la fin de l'épisode... On dirait qu'ils tirent avec des pistolets à bille...
Mise à part ça, vous voulez savoir quoi ? (LA NOTE !!) Merci de ne pas crier, je mets un 15.5/20 pour la bande son pour les raisons cités si-dessus (Je parlerai peut-être de l'opening et de l'ending dans un post dédié, vous en pensez-quoi ? Dites le en commentaire pour que je sache ;) ).
Mon ressenti :
La partie la plus subjective vu que c'est bien "mon ressenti". Donc ne vous fiez pas trop à cette partie :)
Déjà... POURQUOI EMMENER DES PROJECTEURS AUSSI GRANDS ?! Je me calme d'accord, mais juste pourquoi ?
Sinon, j'ai bien aimé une citation dans cet épisode :
Si le roi ne guide pas ses sujets, ils n'iront nulle part.

Vous attendez encore la note ? 16/20, j'ai vraiment ressenti les émotions qu'ils voulaient faire passer à travers cet épisode grâce aux plusieurs relectures pour cet article, donc je pense que cette note est justifiée.
Bilan :
Qu'est-ce que l'on peut attendre du prochain épisode ? On sait qu'il manque un pilote pour un « Lancelot » chez l'armée de Britannia, Suzaku a-t'il survécut ? Et qui est cette « Nunnaly » que l'on voit brièvement à la fin ? Quand la fille dit « Le pouvoir des rois te plongera dans la solitude », qu'est-ce qu'elle veut dire par là, et qui est-elle ? Qui est cet homme qui parle de la « jonction de Ragnarok » ? Est-ce que c'est Lelouch qui utilise son pouvoir, car on le voit s’interroger sur la scène qu'il vient de voir.
Cela fait un 76/100 pour cette épisode.
