Anime to look out for in January 2018, Devilman Crybaby
Hello termites,
As we're approaching Christmas, there is a series that I absolutely need to share with the anime community on Steemit; Devilman Crybaby.
Devilman Crybaby is a 10 episodes anime series produced by anime studio, Science Saru in cooperation with Netflix. Science Saru is led by Masaaki Yuasa, an animator and director with immense talent, who has worked on hit anime like Ping Pong The Animation and The Tatamy Galaxy.
So what it's about? Devilman is a 1972 horror action manga by legendary and controversial artist, Go Nagai. It tells the story of a young Japanese teenager, Akira Fudou who's dragged by his crazy friend, Ryo Asuka into an upcoming war against Lord Satan's army of demons set on reclaiming the Earth for themselves after God and his angels wiped them out in all out war. Essentially, Akira is humanity's last hope as he merges with a demon to become Devilman to fight demons, using fire to fight fire. This may initially sound like your typical Marvel superhero story, but as you read through the 5 volume manga, you'll notice that the story will take somewhat unexpected dark turns. Anyway, the content of the manga was so shocking at the time it was produced and consequently influenced a generation of artists that came after, such as Hideaki Anno, director of Evangelion and Kentaro Miura, author of Berserk.
Devilman Crybaby will adapt this story, but with the director's own artistic changes. The art may take some time getting used to but it's all done in good faith given that the director, Masaaki Yuasa is known for his fantastic, yet unconventional visuals.
The series is set to release on January 5th, just after New Year on Netflix and will be dubbed in several languages as well. There are three trailers out and a special video which you can watch on the official site or alternatively on YouTube.
Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas to you all!

I don't like Yuasa and I dislike his visuals(they look flat) but there will at least be more gore and violence than the previous adaptation. Do you know how many episodes there are going to be?
I'm okay with Yuasa and I can see your point about his visuals. However, I'm a fan of the manga, and I think Yuasa's direction will be fair enough to it.
Devilman is only 5 volumes long, so there'll be 10 episodes of 25 minutes each, which is equivalent to that of Ping Pong The Animation (11 episodes, about 20+ minutes each)
Watched 3-4 episodes, meh. Not anything that good. Feels very rushed, shallow, and the plot is like all over the place.
