Anime review: Assassination Classroom

in #anime8 years ago

Next for our anime, video game and movie reviews we review Assassination Classroom
So for Assassination Classroom as with any story we look at the premise, the characters and the story itself and observe both the good and the bad to give you the best objective review to ensure your money and time isn’t wasted.

PREMISE

The premise of Assassination Classroom is that the moon is suddenly damaged and made into a permanent crescent shape. The culprit behind it being the alien creature pictured above. He comes to Class E after an agreement with the Japanese Government that he will destroy the planet in one year unless the students of class E are able to kill him. To help with that he becomes Class E’s teacher and agrees to not harm the children making it safe for them to make repeated attempts on his life. Their day to day interactions with the alien whom they name Koro-sensei make up the bulk of the story.
If that sounds too weird to you then I ask you to stick with me there is more to this show.

CHARACTERS

As there are a lot of them I’ll mainly focus on the big ones

The main protagonist and narrator of the show is Nagisa Shiota, he (yes, he) is the only character in the show that makes note of Koro-sensei’s weaknesses throughout the show. He’s often the one other characters in Class E go to for advice in how to kill him.
Despite his fragile looks he is one of the most dangerous people in Class E and uses this to his advantage from time to time.

The main antagonist of the series named Koro-Sensei by his students. A play on the Japanese word Korosenai which means un-killable. He is the alien like creature that blows up the moon and threatens to do the same to the Earth in one year. However during that time he acts as the teacher to Class E giving them all chances to kill him before the deadline.
Despite being the main antagonist of the series he goes out of his way to make everyone like him and connect with all of his students. In most episodes he’s connected with multiple or a single one of them to help them over personal issues in ways that are meaningful as well as amusing. His super powers and weaknesses are often used to comedic effect in the show.

One of the lesser yet still important characters, Karasuma. Works for the government department of defense and is the one to introduce the mission of killing Koro-Sensei to Class E. Later he joins as the gym teacher to teach them all assassination techniques and encourage them to get more creative in how they approach their mission. A gag in the series is that his department usually gets stuck with the bill when they do something outlandish.

Karma is Nagisa’s best friend and once he joins the show around the third episode he becomes the first to actually injure Koro-Sensei. He often teams up with Nagisa and other classmates in attempts to kill Koro-Sensei and winds up solving problems. He’s also one of the smartest if not troublesome students in the class to deal with, with a long juvenile history behind him.

STORY

The story of Assassination Classroom follows the students of Class E and their attempts to kill their non-human teacher Koro-Sensei in one year before he blows up the earth. The main issues stopping them from doing this being he can regenerate almost instantly and can move at the speed of Mach 20. Furthermore, he’s also the best teacher they have ever had who has the ability to connect with them all on an individual level.
Every episode follows the day to day interactions between the students of Class E and Koro-Sensei as the student’s attempts to kill him. Each episode is narrated by the main character Nagisa Shiota. Each episode has its own problem usually dedicated to school life that is still going on along with the assassination mission. Usually Koro-Sensei thwarts all the assassination attempts against him whilst helping the student or occasionally other villain improve themselves somehow.
Despite the premise and title of the show its mainly a light hearted and funny show that I found myself wanting to keep going back to. Most of the episodes have a real lesson to them that’s fun to learn and keep watching to remind yourself what it is. And the story moves along at a good enough pace that you never feel that the show is weighted down by pointless garbage.

CONCLUSION

As this show has a little of something for everyone, it gives you fun, laughs and winds up teaching you at the same time it’s a show I highly recommend to anyone it gets a great 9.5 out of 10.
