1. Wibu

Japanophilia or wibu is an expression addressed to someone, especially Western people who like the popular culture of Japan. The word weeaboo itself was first used in a forum called 4chan to replace the word wapanese which had been blocked by the forum.

Lately, we often hear the term "He is a bad wibu", "he likes watching anime, it must be wibu", and so on.

The fact is that not everyone who idolizes Japan by watching its movies, listening to its music, or so on can be called Wibu. Because there are other terms like Otaku and Anime Lovers.

In short, Wibu is a nickname for someone who idolizes all things Japanese.

2. Anime Lovers

Anime Lovers is a term for those who love watching anime and know many types of anime. Remember, they only like watching anime and usually don't memorize the anime characters they watch.

While the severity of liking Japanese culture, from this second point of view, of course, Anime Lovers can be said to have the lowest severity because they only like Japanese culture through their anime. Anime is a Japanese product in the form of animated films with various stories and characters.

As the name suggests, Anime Lovers, definitely like anime made in Japan. But that doesn't mean they will be so addicted to anime that they follow all the titles. So they watch anime just to entertain themselves.

3. Otaku

Otaku, like anime because they think it will become their passion, such as being able to make cosplay, learning Japanese to just add insight, and so on. This is still in a reasonable context. Or they like a certain Anime because of its interesting accompanying music.

For Wibu, they watch Anime out of necessity, otherwise watching it will feel like something is missing.

Some even think these characters are real and make them fall in love. Some of us must be familiar with the term Waifu, which means a 2-dimensional version of a girlfriend or lover.

Otaku, like Japanese culture such as clothing, food, music, language, and so on because is considered a passion. They will learn how to design clothes, play music, and cook Japanese-style food just as a passion.

As for Wibu, they will truly idolize Japanese culture, whatever it is, and will even consider Japanese culture to be the best compared to their own country's culture.

Sometimes they will also bring Japanese culture, especially language into their daily life. The third point is meant as a collector because being a collector can also be entertainment for some people.

For Anime Lovers, the desire to buy Japanese-style attributes tends to be very low because they enjoy anime only in terms of stories and to entertain themselves. As for Otaku, they tend to prefer to collect Japanese-style attributes such as Japanese anime-style clothes, action figures, toys, and so on as a hobby.

Because usually, Otaku has a community that will display their various collections. For Wibu, they tend to want to buy Japanese-inspired attributes because they are very maniac for anything with Japanese nuances, ranging from cosplay clothes, food, and so on.

Usually, this Wibu is a connoisseur or buyer of the collection hobby carried out by Otaku.

4. Tokufans

Similar to Anime Lovers, Tokufans is a term for those who like to watch movies or Tokusatsu series such as Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc. These Tokufans are usually very fond of superhero films from Japan.

Now that's the meaning of Wibu, Otaku, Anime Lovers, and Tokufans, it's easy, my friends, Wibu is a term for those who pretend to be Japanese, Otaku is a name for those who love their hobby, Anime Lovers is a term for those who like to watch anime, and Tokufans is the name for those who like Tokusatsu.

Now, after you understand what Wibu, Otaku, Anime Lovers, and Tokufans are, this time I want to tell you the difference, the difference is:

Wibu can include Otaku, Anime Lovers, and Tokufans
While Otaku, Anime Lovers, and Tokufans do not necessarily become or include Wibu.
