Español: ¿Qué es una Novela Ligera?
Una novela ligera (ライトノベル raito noberu?), también llamada ranobe (ラノベ?) es un género literario típico japonés caracterizado por ser redactado con gramática simple. Este género ha adquirido recientemente una gran popularidad en su país natal, y con frecuencia se usa para adaptar éxitos de manga o películas, aunque también puede ocurrir el caso inverso.
La mayoría de novelas ligeras se publican por entregas en periódicos y revistas con determinadas tramas para mantener interesado al lector, no hay restricción en cuanto a la extensión (en tomos y páginas) de una novela ligera; varía según las intenciones del autor.
Comparado con las novelas occidentales, estas suelen tener títulos muy largos para que el lector identifique de qué tipo de historia se trata.
¿Desde que momento empezó su éxito?
A pesar de las buenas ventas de algunas de estas sagas, el mercado de las novelas ligeras seguía siendo muy minoritario durante los años 90, al menos en comparación con otras formas de entretenimiento como el manga y el anime. Sin embargo, en 2003 llegó una sensación que cambió para siempre este panorama: la publicación de "La melancolía de Haruhi Suzumiya", escrita por Nagaru Tanigawa e ilustrada por Noizi Ito, una divertida historia de ciencia ficción, misterio, y fenómenos paranormales.
El éxito sin precedentes de la obra ayudó a que otros novelistas siguieran sus pasos, e hizo que los editores se dieran cuenta de que las novelas ligeras resultaban rentables. Para 2007, el primer volumen de Haruhi Suzumiya había vendido más de 4 millones de copias, y en total se han impreso 16,5 millones de ejemplares de la serie en 15 países, 8 millones sólo en Japón.
Desde entonces, empezó una época dorada para este formato, y hasta el día de hoy, siguen siendo muy rentables y estarán expandiéndose a Latinoamérica a futuro.

While most light novels are published only as books, some have their chapters first serialized in anthology magazines before being collected, similar to how manga is published.
