They ARE serious. The Deux Ex Machina is literally a mecha named Deus X Machina. They werent afraid to make fun of themselves.

There's even a mecha fight in which the antagonist makes fun of Galo for naming his attacks, yet he does exactly the same (even adding explanations!) The studio even added comic-like titles while they were at it 😂😂
