I don’t remember the exact year as my memory is fairly horrific, so I’m going to say around 2012. Across the street from the lovely Convention Center and Marriott Hotel in beautiful San Diego, amongst the stink of moist con nerd that somehow even manages to pollute the open air...we saw these awesome helium filled balloons of Mordaci and Rigby from the always funny, Regular Show.

They were floating above these glistening fountains and we wanted to check them out. It also made me have to take a leak but I’m not an animal...so I did NOT piss in the fountain (this time). While there we saw these folks waking around with these awesome posters for Regular Show and we knew we had to snag those. After asking what amounted to over 10 people before we actually received a coherent answer, we bolted to the building that contained the treasures we seeked.

This photo below is not mine. I google imaged this just to show the example of the piss fountain as I could not find one in my folder.

As we approached our Mecca, we found that you had to go through an “experience”. Sounds awesome!!! Line is 4 hours long. Screw that!! Onto Plan B...

After doing a quick recon, we scoped out the employees or volunteers working that gig. Old lady...too bitchy looking. Young hipster dude...maybe if we brought him some Starbucks. Damn. None around...Hot chick...I visualized her spitting into my face upon me approaching her. What were we gonna do?!? Bingo!!! Middle aged husky dude that looks like any and every other con goer. We found our mark.

As we approached him we took out some of our cool free con swag that we had a ton of and just held it. We walked up to him asking him about the experience. He told us a bit about it and we talked about the long line. We then told him about some of the long lines inside and showed him some of the random swag. He mentioned how “cool” something was in which case we ended up slipping it in a bag for him along with some other cool con crap we had received a tremendous ton of with minimal effort. He was now here...

He was appreciative and asked if we wanted to just get the posters to which we replied...”ummmmm....yeah?”. This sneaky trick allowed us to bypass the several hour wait through the exhibit they were rocking and go straight to the end where you receive the posters. As much as I would have liked to gone through the exhibit, no way I was willing to wait hours to see it. Time is money at SDCC. The end result??? 15 of these giant 36x24 Regular Show Character Posters!!! These things are Awesome!!! I recently opened a box and found our stash of these as I had forgotten all about them. Figured some of you would like to see it! This one is a bit wavy as it had boxes on top of it.

I have no idea what these would fetch in the open market as they are tough to find. There is one listed currently on eBay for 300 smackers but it’s sitting there.

Note:
This is NOT my listing.

The moral of this story is to be a complete Skeezeball and bribe and buy your way into Con exhibits..it’s worked for private parties and all sorts of lines and exhibits. Just gotta find the right target and have the right payoff handy! Also don’t wade in that fountain...

Hope you enjoyed!!! More Con stories to come!!!

Not really a similar story at all, but this reminds me of when I went to Star Wars Celebration a little over a year ago (same place as MegaCon).

First of all, Star Wars Celebration has really gone down hill since the last time it had been in Orlando (VI and VII). They have this stupid wrist band system now where you have to stand in line (sometimes all night) to get a wristband for a panel you want to see (which means there is a good chance you won't get a wrist band for another panel you want to see and there is a limit of three anyway). I don't think I would go again.

Anyway, my daughter and myself ended up going to The Last Jedi panel. We were in one of the overflow rooms where they were broadcasting the panel and not even in the room where the actors were. At the end of the panel, they handed out free posters. They were basically the first posters for The Last Jedi. Not five minutes later they were popping up on eBay for hundreds of dollars. My daughter sold hers to a guy who didn't make it in for $100 cash less than an hour after we got out of that panel. I kept mine. Currently it looks like prices vary crazily on eBay and then there are reproduction ones now of course as well.

Yeah man. Isn’t that nuts? We’ve done the same thing before. Walked out of a line or an area and get offered delicious coin for something we got 5 seconds earlier for free. We’ve also been offered dogshit but that’s con!

Dam $300 I have to say its a awesome poster thnks for sharing the close-ups @blewitt

Yeah I don’t think any are selling for that price but it wouldn’t surprise me fot it to fetch over $100.

I know there was an old Marvel poster from years back that fetches insane money.

Hello @blewitt, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!

Oh wow! Thank you so much. Any more exposure to different crowds is a tremendous help!!!
