Hello Steemians! I took all these picture of Indian gazelle in 2016 for my project. So thought to share this beautiful shy animal with all of you.

Indian Gazelle which is also known as Chinkara. It is a slender and graceful mammal looks like almost a deer but has its own known appearance. They are characterized by sandy, yellowish & red coloured fur with pale white ventral region.

They have beautiful horns which ranges in length is about 30 to 40 cm. In males the horns are curved and larger than females. They can run at great speeds ranging from 50 to 60 Kms.

They are 65 cm in shoulder height and the average weight is about 23 kg. The females are about 10 cm shorter than males and quite lighter in weight. Indian gazelles have medium sized tail which is covered with dorsal crest of black hairs.

They are better adapted to browsing than grazing however, it can eats legumes and grasses in large amount. Their food generally consists mainly grass and many kinds of leaves and fruits such as pumpkins and melons and that’s why they plays an important role in seed dispersal.

They can survive without the water for days and can get enough fluids from the dew and plants.

They avoid human habitation because they are shy animal. Its most species are seen alone although sometimes they are spotted in groups of about 4 animals.
